FROM THE DIRECTOR:
Prayers needed: Today as we had many phone calls for people needing shelter, we had two come in. I wanted to share a little about the situations in our area, it's real, there are homeless people in our community. As I am doing paperwork on a gentleman that had been sleeping in the park for two months because he had lost his job and then his apartment because of sickness, very humble, very heartbreaking, he was hungry, he had tears. My tears soon began as I ask the question "who would we notify in case of an emergency?" When you hear the answer, "No One", "I have no family left, they are all gone". I say, okay guess what...You have a family, the Hope House family. As I am doing my best to hold back tears....I can't even finish the paperwork. Then your next person comes in...."lost my home, couldn't afford it on my own", crying as he is so weak he can barely speak. Very sickly, hungry and his poor hands with frost bite from sleeping in the cold. Needless to say, its been a day of tears, compassion and new day of HOPE for those in need. To see the sigh of relief when they know they are gonna have a good warm bed to sleep in, a warm bath and a hot meal....It's a blessing to see that sparkle of thankfulness in their eyes. I ask you all to please say a prayer for the homeless & hurting and for our ministry. I am so thankful that our community has a shelter for men and for women for situations just like today. Its such a blessing! Please also remember that we are Faith-based and we are trying to raise money to purchase the men's shelter. Any donations to help the shelter's would be a blessing. God Bless.
When an applicant comes in, our Director, Tammy Harmon, interviews them for their needs.. They are given a drug test, a back ground check is done and when accepted, they are given a personal pillow, sheets, shaving, and bath needs in a tote caddy.
We try to evaluate their basic immediate needs, then, help them with clothing, educational resources, (GED, etc) work possibilities, and future housing, and exit planning. We like to see a 90 day turn around time to find work, housing, etc.
We encourage good hygiene, warm food, and spiritual training. Currently all our residents are attending church of their choice and most have found jobs. They are ask to donate at least 10% of their income to help on their care.
"DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN JESUS ASKED PETER 3 TIMES....DO YOU LOVE ME?" and HE INSTRUCTED HIM "FEED MY LAMBS, FEED MY SHEEP" IN (JOHN 21: 15-17). and what we learn FROM ROMANS 12:8, OR MATTHEW 25:34-40 OR MATTHEW 5:16. WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
How can one help this faith based mission?
Your support of the Galax Hope HouseMinistries, Inc. helps us to provide homeless and hurting people assistance so they can become healthy, happy, productive and self-sufficient. To help all the residents of the Hope House to achieve the goals they need to become independent we need people who will believe in what we are doing and who will support our mission through prayer, volunteer work and providing financial assistance.
Since we are a Christ-Based Ministry, the Hope House Board of Directors has decided not to accept any State or Government Grants unless they are faith based. By stepping out in faith we believe that God will provide our needs through touching the hearts of those who believe His Word. Please pray about how you can help the ministry at the Hope House. Some ways you or your group can help is by...
- Becoming a monthly supporter
- Donating in-date food and/or clothing
- Holding a supply/food drive
- Hosting a fundraiser
- Being a creative donor (stocks, bonds, land, housing, etc.)
- Adopting a room - supplying items
- Volunteering time
- Giving a donation in Memory or in Honor of someone
- Donating a one-time gift to help with operating expenses
- Praying for our ministry and residents!
