The Galax Hope House Ministries Inc. began operating  in 1987 under the Church of the Good Shepherd.  In 1989, the Hostel joined with Mt. Rogers Mental Health to enlarge its services to the homeless. In October 1993, this ministry of the church was incorporated as the Hostel of the Good Shepherd, Inc. and began serving as an emergency housing and homeless shelter for those in Galax, Carroll County, Grayson County and surrounding counties.

On February 14, 2011 The Hostel's Incorporated name was changed to Hope House of the Good Shepherd, Inc. The Hope House now focuses on serving as a shelter and recovery center for the homeless and hurting.

In 2014 the Church of the Good Shepherd decided to sell the home and accepted our offer and we are currently are in the process of fund raising for the purchase of the men's shelter.

In December 2014 the ministries name changed to Galax Hope House Ministries, Inc.

Also in October 2013 God blessed us with home to open as a Women's Shelter, after many renovations completed by local churches and volunteers we were blessed to open the doors to this shelter on November 16, 2014.

The Executive Director and staff of the Hope House are currently providing case work/assistance to residents to help them obtain food, clothing, health management, social service benefits, education, job training, employment and spiritual development. The new mission of the Hope House is to help residents develop the skills needed for them to lead healthy, happy, productive and self-sufficient lives.
